An overwhelming hospital experience!

Quick update on what happened today. I had class this morning from 9 am to 1:00 pm, after class we set out to Gray Memorial to teach our classes. We usually go in the morning to Gray Memorial, so when we pulled up in the taxes the kids went crazy! They had been waiting for us.

After teaching school we came back and I set out with three other students to the hospital. We wanted to go to the hospital to see how it compares to the health care in the U.S. I could go on for hours and hours about this experience. Let me just tell you it was one of the hardest parts about this trip yet. To give you an idea it was hot, smelly, bugs, one bathroom, on bottle of hand sanitizer for the whole hospital, more than one person shoved in a room at a time with various illness, and the list could go on and on. We left the hospital with our heads down for a very long time. I got choked up while going through the hospital. I came back to the hostel and explained to my good Ghanaian friend Charley about my experience. I tried to tell him why it was so hard and the differences between our health care and his. He said “ That hospital is for the wealthy and it is very nice, if you thought that was bad you would be weeping at the government hospital.” What an overwhelming experience I had today.

Tomorrow we will be setting out to Kpong again which is about 3 hours away. We will be returning to finish teaching the high school students. After teaching them we will head into Manya Krobo to teach the women’s college on Anemia and conduct some research. Following these two groups we will be teaching a women’s Presbyterian group. I am very excited about this. I will be teaching about women’s rights. I am very excited for our long day. Like I said our bus leaves at 7:00 Am and we will be back at 10:00 pm. I am excited for this work that is cut out for us tomorrow. I am trying hard to live everyday to the fullest

  1. Maren wants to know how old Ezikial is?
And I am hoping that you stay healthy and do not have to visit those hospitals.
I am trying to get my Skype working. It was giving me a hard time tonight.
    Love you.
